Symantec Backup Exec

What is System recovery?
System recovery is the ability to restore systems in case of failure to a specified point in time without taking hours to manually rebuild and restore them.

Backup Exec

You do not need a major disaster to need rapid system recovery! Everyday occurrences such as hardware failure and human error can bring a system down!
Backup Exec or other competing solutions can help protect the data but you need more than backup software to be able to get the systems up and running quickly without having to perform a manual disaster recovery which can take hours/days.

Manual disaster recovery is time consuming, technically difficult, and prone to human error. Typically, this includes rebuilding a server.

Then you finally get to a point where you can initiate a restoration from tape (reboot). There is still a chance you don’t have the right tape or some of the critical system information is missing.
The Backup Exec product family provides two solutions to overcome this challenge : Backup Exec System Recovery and Backup Exec Intelligent Disaster Recovery Option.

To summarize, Backup Exec System Recovery is recommended for customers that are looking for a Windows disk-based, bare-metal system recovery solution for business critical servers as it is incredibly fast, hardware independent and can be deployed in environments that might or might not have Backup Exec for data protection. Backup Exec’s Intelligent Disaster Recovery Option is recommended for clients that are looking for Windows or NetWare tape-based system recovery solution for non-mission-critical servers and have a Backup Exec Media Server in their environment.
